Türkiye summons Norwegian ambassador over plans to burn Holy Quran

"Upon learning that there will be an attack against our holy book, the Quran, in Norway tomorrow, the Norwegian ambassador to Türkiye has just been summoned to our ministry,” The state-run Anadolu Agency quoted anonymous Foreign Ministry sources as saying.

"It was emphasized to the ambassador that we strongly condemn Norway's approach not to prevent the planned provocative act, which is clearly a hate crime, this attitude is unacceptable and we expect this act not to be allowed," the sources said.

On Friday, far-right provocateur Rasmus Paludan torched copies of the Holy Quran near a mosque Friday and outside the premises of the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen.

Paludan, known for his Islamophobic extremism, staged a similar stunt on Jan. 21 and announced he would burn the Noble Quran every Friday until Sweden is included in the NATO alliance.

These insolent attacks targeting the holy book of Muslims have sparked a strong backlash from the Muslim world at large, leading to calls to boycott Swedish goods. (ILKHA)
