“The state of emergency in the entire territory will be extended from Tuesday to Dec. 31, 2023,” a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette said.

The government of Tunisia has regularly renewed the measure since the 2015 attacks in Sousse and Tunis.

The state of emergency gives additional powers to the Interior Minister and security forces, including the ability to ban large gatherings, censor media, and impose curfews.

The restrictions cause violations of human rights and widespread abuses, according to rights groups. (ILKHA)
