Bangladesh’s presidential election to be held on February 19
The election for the next President of Bangladesh will be held on February 19, the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal announced on Wednesday.
“Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on February 13 from 10 am while nomination papers could be withdrawn till 4 pm on February 14. The voting will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Parliament Complex of the Jatiya Sangsad on February 19,” Awal said.
The tenure of the current President Abdul Hamid, who assumed office on April 24, 2018, will end on April 23, 2023.
The Bangladesh constitution does not allow for more than two terms for the post of President.
The President is elected by an indirect election by the members of parliament as per Article 48 of the Constitution. (ILKHA)
