At least 19 dead, 24 injured in Senegal road accident
At least 19 people were killed and 24 others injured in a road accident in Senegal early on Monday.
The accident took place when a bus collided with a truck around 5:40 a.m. near Ngeun Sarr in the country's north.
“Yet another fatal accident on our roads at the entrance to Ngeun Sarr. 19 human lives were lost and 24 were injured,” Senegalese President Macky Sall wrote on Twitter.
“This highlights the need to strengthen road safety measures. My heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. Speedy recovery to the injured,” he added.
Last week, 40 people were killed and 101 injured in central Senegal when two buses collided in Gniby near the regional capital of Kaffrine on the N1 national road.
Buses, known locally as "schedules," travel at night from region to region in Senegal, and cause many accidents. (ILKHA)
