Thousands of children were killed by Soviet bombs disguised as toys; gas and chemical weapons were used against civilians.

The army of the Soviet Union killed large numbers of Afghans to suppress their resistance. Up to 2 million Afghans were killed by the Soviet forces and their proxies.

The Soviet troops also destroyed crops, killed livestock, plundered houses, and then withdrew. A witness described that the Soviet troops broke into the houses by throwing grenades at the doors, and then claimed that they were searching for weapons and ammunition.

The Soviet forces were known for stealing civilians' belongings.

The Soviet forces committed one of the largest massacres in Laghman province, murdering more than 1000 Citizens.

Their crimes were brutal and their war against Afghan civilians was genocidal. Different observers came to such conclusions. Whole villages were wiped out by the Red Army, and thousands of Afghans vanished in the torture dungeons of the Communist regimes in Kabul.

Dec 27th is not only a dark day of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan but also the beginning of the Afghan people’s other pains and sufferings that followed. The faithful people, sacrificing lives and wealth, defended their religion and country.

The brutality of the Soviet forces in Afghanistan displaced millions of people, specifically women, and children.

The Red Army disregarded all norms of conduct and unabashedly targeted children by disguising land mines as toys. Despite demining efforts, to this day, children are often maimed or killed by the mines that remain.

During the war with the Soviets, Afghanistan lost over 1.3 million people, the bulk of them civilians… The population was scattered in neighboring refugee camps and across the globe.

The Soviet torture involves pulling out fingernails, as well as systematic beating and psychological pressure and Soviet troops tried to seal border areas to prevent Afghans from fleeing the country.

In the brutal nine-year conflict, an estimated one million civilians were killed, as well as 90,000 Mujahideen fighters were martyred because of the invasion of Soviet forces.

The mujahidin employed guerrilla tactics against the Soviets. They would attack or raid quickly, then disappear into the mountains, causing great destruction without pitched battles. The fighters used whatever weapons they could grab from the Soviets.

More than 30,000 Soviet Soldiers came to Afghanistan with planes, tanks, and all their technologies, but still could not conquer Afghanistan and it was all possible because of those great Mujahideen who fought them like a tiger and defeated them. (ILKHA)
