US Senate passes bill to ban TikTok on government-owned devices
The United States Senate passed unanimously a bill to bar federal employees from using the Chinese-owned video-sharing app TikTok on government-owned devices.
The bill would still need to be passed by the House and signed by US President Joe Biden to become law.
The House of Representatives would need to pass the Senate bill before the current congressional session ends, which is expected next week.
In November, Christopher A. Wray, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, told U.S. lawmakers that the Chinese government could use TikTok to control data collection on millions of users or control the recommendation algorithm, which could be used for influence operations. (ILKHA)
