Police arrest suspect in Istanbul bombing
Turkish security forces have arrested a suspect who allegedly planted a bomb on Istanbul’s busiest street that killed at least six people and injured more than 80 others, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced early Monday.
“According to initial findings, the PKK/YPG terror group was behind the bomb attack,” Soylu said in a press conference at the scene of Sunday’s attack on Istiklal Street, Istanbul.
“A little while ago the person who left the bomb was taken under custody by teams of the Istanbul Police Department. Before their arrest, 21 more people were also taken under custody. The face of terrorism is bitter, but we will continue this struggle to the end, whatever the cost is,” Soylu added.
On Sunday, an explosion took place on İstiklal Avenue in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district.
At least six people were killed and at least eighty-one people were injured from the explosion.
Of the eighty-one treated in hospital, thirty-nine were released the same day and five are being treated in intensive care. (ILKHA)
