9 arrested over India bridge collapse
Nine people were arrested over the collapse of a pedestrian bridge in western India that killed almost 140 people, police said.
The nine people, who are associated with a company that maintained the bridge in Morbi, were arrested for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, senior police officer Ashok Kumar Yadav said in a statement.
On Sunday, Jhulto Pul, a pedestrian suspension bridge over the Machchhu River in the city of Morbi, Gujarat, India, collapsed, leading to the deaths of at least 141 people.
The 19th-century bridge had reopened four days earlier, in time for Diwali and the Gujarati New Year, following a lengthy closure for repairs. (ILKHA)
