Approximately 100,000 people attended the Halloween event in Itaewon. It was the most attended Halloween festival in the area since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The crowd crush occurred at 22:20 local time (KST), along an alleyway near Itaewon station's second exit and the Hamilton Hotel, according to local media reports.

South Korean officials said there were at least 151 deaths, with more fatalities expected. The known deaths consisted of 97 females and 54 males. Most of the dead were teenagers or young adults. Nineteen foreigners were among the dead, including nationals of Iran, Uzbekistan, China, and Norway.

At least 82 others were confirmed injured, though the National Fire Agency and Ministry of the Interior and Safety had said that nearly 100 people were injured, with 50 receiving medical attention for cardiac arrests. (ILKHA)
