Rishi Sunak announces candidacy for next British Prime Minister
Britain’s former finance minister Rishi Sunak announced Sunday his bid to become the next Conservative leader and prime minister.

“The United Kingdom is a great country but we face a profound economic crisis. That’s why I am standing to be Leader of the Conservative Party and your next Prime Minister,” Sunak said in a statement on Twitter.
“I want to fix our economy, unite our Party and deliver for our country,” he added.

Rishi Sunak, who was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton to African Hindu parents of Punjabi Indian descent, served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 13 February 2020 to 5 July 2022, and Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 24 July 2019 to 13 February 2020.
A member of the Conservative Party, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015. (ILKHA)
