Death toll from Iran prison fire rises to 8
Some four prisoners in Evin prison who were injured following clashes died Sunday evening, bringing the death toll to eight.
The all eight of the victims were prisoners of the robbery-related offense ward, the media center of the Iranian Judiciary said.
Some six of the other injured are still in hospital and undergoing medical treatment and care.
Tehran’s Evin Prison is known to hold political activists and journalists, as well as dual and foreign nationals.
On Saturday, starting around 10:00 local time, a series of incidents including a fire, explosions and automatic gun battles occurred in the Evin Prison. (ILKHA)
