Turkish FM slams United States for lifting the arms embargo on Southern Cyprus
Turkish Foreign Ministry Mevlut Cavusoglu warned the United States of a new escalation in Cyprus Island after Washington decided to lift the decades-old arms embargo on Southern Cyprus for the coming fiscal year.
“We will respond to this decision of the USA with concrete steps. If you want to escalate tensions on the island, we will do what is necessary,” Cavusoglu said.
On September 16, the Biden administration announced a decision to lift the decades-old arms embargo on Cyprus for the coming fiscal year.
Turkiye condemned the United States' decision, warning that the move could result in an arms race on the island. (ILKHA)
