Euro zone inflation hits record high 10% in September
Inflation in in the 19 countries that use the euro has broken into double digits after prices for electricity and natural gas soar.
“Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 10.0% in September 2022, up from 9.1% in August according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union,” EU statistics agency Eurostat said in a statement on Friday.
“Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy is expected to have the highest annual rate in September (40.8%, compared with 38.6% in August), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (11.8%, compared with 10.6% in August), non-energy industrial goods (5.6%, compared with 5.1% in August) and services (4.3%, compared with 3.8% in August),” the agency added.
