Bandits kill 18 Muslim worshipers at mosque in northwestern Nigeria
Armed bandits killed at least 15 Muslim worshippers at a mosque in northwest Nigeria's Zamfara state, local sources reported.
The deadly attack was carried out during Friday prayers at the Jumu'at central mosque in Ruwan Jema town in the Bukkuyum local government area.
The armed group arrived the mosques on motorcycles just as Jum’at prayer was about to start and started shooting at the worshippers indiscriminately, local residents said.
According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project, armed bandit groups killed more than 2,600 Nigerian civilians in 2021.
Between January and March 2022 at least 360 people were killed by bandits in Kaduna State alone, while on 10 April more than 100 people were killed in attacks on several communities in the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State. (ILKHA)
