Ukraine recaptures more than 300 settlements in northern Kharkiv, Deputy Defense Minister says
About 150,000 Kharkiv Oblast residents have been freed from Russian occupation in the rapid counteroffensive, Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar announced on Tuesday.
"Since September 6, about 3,800 square kilometers, more than 300 settlements, and about 150,000 of our people have been liberated from Russian occupation," Mailar said at a briefing in Balaklia.
In late August 2022, Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a counteroffensive against Russian forces occupying the country since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February of the same year.
Engagements were reported on Ukraine's southern Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts.
On Sunday, President Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian forces had retaken 6,000 sq km from Russia, in both the south and the east. (ILKHA)
