“The second goodness train is on its way to Pakistan… After the first train that departed on Tuesday, our second train that will deliver the helping hand of our nation to our brothers and sisters affected by the flood disaster in Pakistan has also departed,” AFAD tweeted.

The humanitarian aid that has been sent to flood-affected people in Pakistan includes tents, blankets and food parcels.

Since June 2022, floods in Pakistan have killed at least 1,191 people, including 380 children.

The floods were caused by heavier than usual monsoon rains and melting glaciers that followed a severe heat wave, all of which are linked to climate change.

It is the world's deadliest flood since the 2017 South Asian floods and described as the worst in the country's history.

On 25 August, Pakistan declared a state of emergency because of the flooding. By 29 August, Pakistan's Minister of Climate Change said around "one-third" of the country was underwater, affecting 33 million people.

The Government of Pakistan has estimated the loss of US$10 billion so far from floodings across the country. (ILKHA)
