Floods kill at least 24 people in eastern Uganda
At least 24 people have reportedly been killed after heavy rain triggered flooding and landslides in Bugisu and Sebei sub-regions.
Two rivers burst their banks after heavy rains, which started at 11 pm on Saturday until 8 am Sunday, caused mudslides, causing widespread damage and forcing hundreds of residents to leave their homes.
Uganda Red Cross Society said Monday that 24 bodies had so far been recovered.
“Mbale death Toll is now at 21. Kapchorwa death toll remains at 3. Search and rescue efforts continue. We commiserate with the affected communities, especially the bereaved families. Response teams are still on the ground,” URCS spokesperson Irene Nakasiita said on Twitter. (ILKHA)
