Draupadi Murmu elected as new President of India
A tribal lady Draupadi Murmu has been the 2nd woman to make it to the highest constitutional post in India.
The NDA's presidential candidate Murmu emerged victorious in the presidential election by getting a total of 6,76,803 votes over her rival Yashwant Sinha who polled 3,80,177 votes.
Murmu is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She served as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand between 2015 and 2021 and was chosen as the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance in the 2022 election.
After securing a majority of votes, Murmu made history by becoming the first tribal and second woman to secure this post.
Once she takes oath as the President of India on July 25, Murmu will be the youngest President to date and the first to be born after independence (ILKHA)
