Kanaani stated: “Mr. Joe Biden’s emphasis on pursuing the policy of economic and diplomatic pressure against Iran contradicts the United States’ continuously expressed willingness to revive the 2015 agreement and is in line with the Trump administration’s failed policy of maximum pressure against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added: “The previous US government, by unilaterally withdrawing from the JCPOA (nuclear deal), actually caused serious damage to the strategy of multilateral diplomacy to resolve disputes, and the current US government, despite its slogans and claims of returning to the agreement and making up for the mistakes of the previous US government, unfortunately in practice, follows the same approach by continuing sanctions and economic pressure.”

Kanaani said resorting to the failed policy against the Islamic Republic of Iran as the most constructive contributor to the region, is in conflict with Mr. Biden’s claims in the article about trying to create a stable and secure Middle East. He emphasized: “A safer and more stable Middle East can only be achieved if the US ends its divisive policy among the regional countries, stops the flow of weapons to the region, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, abandons the policy of unconditional support for the Zionist regime, and also ends the policy of Iranophobia, and as long as these wrong and crisis-creating policies are not rectified, the US will be the main (country) responsible for instability in the West Asian region.”

The spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to the US president who ironically took the honor for destroying Daesh and reining in terrorism in the region, and added: “The statements by the former president and the former secretary of state of the United States regarding the origin of Daesh contradict Mr. Biden’s statements. What’s more, the US government’s move to cowardly assassinate (Lieutenant General) Martyr Qassem Soleimani, the hero of the fight against Daesh and Takfiri terrorism, was America’s biggest aid to Daesh and Takfiri terrorists.”

Kanaani also said the US government’s pragmatic policy towards the Palestinian issue is contrary to Biden’s claim that the United States is trying to establish stability and security in the West Asian region, adding: “The Zionist regime is the biggest source of instability and spreading organized terrorism in the West Asian region, and the US’s all-out support for this regime is the clearest reason to invalidate the US government’s claim of pacifism.”

In the end, the foreign ministry spokesperson emphasized: “The points in Mr. Biden’s writing are a one-sided and unrealistic account of the US government’s policies in the West Asian region, and if American statesmen really want stability and security in the West Asian region and, as a result, a safe world for themselves and others, they’d better understand the new realities of the world and avoid trying to impose American values and unilateralism and allow the countries of the region to act according to their own values, interests and realities and within the framework of regional cooperation to ensure their security and collective interests.” (ILKHA)
