Heavy rain and storm kill 26 people in Pakistan

14 people died in Karachi, nine in Thatta, two in Khairpur, and one in Sukkur, local media reported.

The Sindh government declared a rain emergency in Karachi on Tuesday after several areas and main roads across the city were submerged with water.

“Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has informed, vide a press release dated 12th June, 2022 that, monsoon currents from Bay of Bengal are continuously penetrating in upper and central parts of the country, while another strong monsoon low-pressure area (LPA) is likely to approach Sindh on 14th July,” Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority warned.

“Under the influence of this weather system, more widespread intermittent heavy to very heavy rain-wind/thundershowers are expected in Karachi division, Hyderabad Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Mithi, Jamshoro, Nosheroferoze, Larkana, Jaccobabad, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore districts of Sindh from 14th to 17th July 2022,” it added.
