Türkiye's annual inflation soars to 78.6% in June—statistical agency
Consumer price index (CPI) increased by 78.62% annually and 4.95% monthly, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Monday.
A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 4.95%, on December of the previous year by 42.35%, on same month of the previous year by 78.62% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 44.54% in June 2022.
Compared to general CPI, lower annual change observed in 8 main groups while 4 main groups were higher
The lowest annual increase was 23.74% in communication. Clothing and footwear with 26.99%, education with 27.76% and health with 39.34%, were the other main groups where low annual increases realized. On the other hand, transportation with 123.37%, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 93.93% and furnishings and household equipment with 81.14% were the main groups where high annual increases realized.
Compared to general CPI, lower monthly change observed in 9 main groups while 3 main groups were higher
In June 2022, clothing and footwear with 0.18%, health with 1.97% and recreation and culture with 2.02% were the main groups that indicated lowest monthly increase.
On the other hand, transportation with 10.59%, housing with 8.34%, and hotels, cafes and restaurants with 5.42% were the main groups where high monthly increases realized.
In June 2022, within indices of 144 basic headings (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose-COICOP 5 Digit Level) in the index, the index of 12 basic headings decreased and the index of 3 basic headings remained unchanged while the index of 129 basic headings increased.
The indicator for CPI having specified coverage (B) increased by 64.42% annually and 4.20% monthly
A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 4.20%, on December of the previous year by 32.95%, on same month of the previous year by 64.42% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 38.59% in June 2022.
