Turkey not change its stance on Sweden, Finland’s NATO bid—Erdoğan
Turkish President and Justice and Development (AK) Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the party group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
Erdoğan said: “We shall never change our stance on the NATO issue until Sweden and Finland take clear and concrete steps in the fight against terror. While the fallen of our country are tearing our hearts out on a daily basis, no one can expect concessions from us on this issue. Let me underline that Türkiye has no time to lose with expectations or ambivalent remarks regarding the issue.”
“We are aware of the scenario against our country staged over Greece”
Noting that he had expressed to his counterparts in a very clear manner Türkiye’s messages as regards the developments in the Aegean during the Exercise EFES-2022 in İzmir, Erdoğan said: “We are aware of the scenario against our country staged over Greece, spoilt and unleashed onto us by some circles as has always been the case throughout history. The problem is that Greece is not aware of this scenario or is acting as a volunteer extra in it. As you know, it is extras that get tired and worn out the most, even getting hurt physically, during filming, yet, their names and faces are not seen on the screen. This is what befell Greece in the past, and this is what will befall Greece in the future as well if it insists on doing the same mistake. We will always be maintaining and consolidating our presence in our region and the world as a global political, economic and military power but they will stay as an extra working for a few bucks if they continue with the same mentality.”
Underlining that Türkiye would never change its stance on the NATO issue until Sweden and Finland take clear and concrete steps in the fight against terror, Erdoğan said: “While the fallen of our country are tearing our hearts out on a daily basis, no one can expect concessions from us on this issue. Let me underline that Türkiye has no time to lose with expectations or ambivalent remarks regarding the issue.” (ILKHA)
