Iran returns military vehicles to Afghanistan
Tehran returned dozens of military vehicles and a large number of weapons, which have been shifted to Iran after the fall of the Ashraf Ghani-led government in August 2021, to Afghanistan on Wednesday.
“As a result of IEA officials’ continuous communications with the Islamic Republic of Iran, military equipment taken to Iran during the collapse of the previous administration including weaponry, humvees, ranger, fire trucks & other vehicles were returned to the Afghan government,” Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi said.
“This positive step by the Islamic Republic of Iran will further strengthen relations between the two countries,” he added.

In 2021, security forces under the Ashraf Ghani-led government fled to Iran, taking with them large numbers of weapons and vehicles, as the Taliban forces proceeded to conquer Afghanistan’s western provinces.
The weapons and vehicle were then confiscated by the Iranian authorities. (ILKHA)
