5.6-magnitude earthquake jolts southern Philippines
An offshore earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 struck Surigao del Sur province in the southern Philippines earlier on Friday, the country’s Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The quake occurred at 2:54 a.m. with a depth of 16 kilometers about 31 kilometers northeast of Cagwait town.
The tremor was also felt in nearby areas on Mindanao Island and Leyte province in the central Philippines, according to local sources.
There had been no immediate reports of casualties or damage. (ILKHA)
