Hospital fire kills 11 newborn babies in Senegal
At least eleven newborn babies died in a fire at a hospital in Tivaouane, Senegal, the country’s president said on Wednesday.
“I have just learned with pain and dismay the death of 11 newborns, in the fire that occurred in the neonatology department of the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh hospital in Tivaouane,” Senegal President Macky Sall said on Twitter.
“To their moms and to their families, I express my deepest sympathy,” he added.
Investigators think an electrical short-circuit most likely caused the fire, according to Senegal’s health minister, Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr. (ILKHA)
