Turkey’s unemployment rate at 11.4% in Q1
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 11.4% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter.
According to Household Labor Force Survey; seasonally adjusted unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 50 thousand to 3 million 845 thousand persons, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate occurred as 11.4% with 0.1 percentage point increase. Unemployment rate was estimated 10.2% for men and 13.7% for women.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 46.6%
The number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 188 thousand to 29 million 964 thousand persons in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 46.6% with increase of 0.1 percentage points. In addition, this rate was 64.0% for men, 29.5% for women.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 52.6%
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 238 thousand persons to 33 million 809 thousand persons in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter and the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 52.6% with 0.2 percentage point increase. Labor force participation rate was estimated 71.3% for men and 34.2% for women.
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 21.1%
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 21.1% with 0.3 percentage point decrease compared to the previous quarter. Unemployment rate in this age group estimated as 18.5% for men and 26.0% for women.
56.3% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, the number of seasonally adjusted agricultural employment decreased by 139 thousand persons, construction decreased by 36 thousand persons while industry increased by 70 thousand persons and services increased by 292 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 16.1% was employed in agriculture, 21.8% was employed in industry, 5.8% was employed in construction and 56.3% was employed in services.
Seasonally and calendar adjusted weekly average actual working hours realized as 45.2
Seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours of those employed during the reference period increased by 0.6 hours compared to the previous quarter and estimated 45.2 hours in the first quarter of 2022.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 22.6%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 22.6% without any change in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 15.6%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 18.8%. (ILKHA)
