Pakistan to reopen NCOC after new Covid sub-variant detected
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Ministry of National Health Services on Tuesday to produce a report on the current situation.
Sharif took notice of the growing number of cases due to the new Covid-19 Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 and directed the reopening of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
He also asked the Health Ministry to prepare a report on the current situation of the sub-variant’s spread across the country.
The National Command and Operation Center was set up in March 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to collect, analyze and process information, transferring all its functions, roles, and responsibilities to the NIH.
On April 1, Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar announced the closure of the NCOC operations, partly because of all-time low COVID-19 indicators and partly because of the high level of vaccination.ILKHA)
