Turkey’s red meat production rises by 9.3 in 2021—statistical agency
Total red meat production increased by 9.3% and became 1 million 952 thousand 38 tons in 2021, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Friday.
Red meat production estimation is based on the multiplication of the average carcass weight with the number of slaughtered animals from domestic population, which is estimated by slaughtering rate, and the number of imported slaughtered animals. Slaughtering rate is estimated from demographic data compiled by Animal Production Survey in Agricultural Holdings.
Accordingly, total red meat production, which was 1 million 785 thousand 952 tons in 2020, increased by 9.3% in 2021, and it was estimated as 1 million 952 thousand 38 tons. When compared to the previous year, cattle meat production increased by 8.9% and estimated as 1 million 460 thousand 719 tons, sheep meat production increased by 11.7% and estimated as 385 thousand 933 tons, goat meat production increased by 4.5% and estimated as 94 thousand 555 tons, and buffalo meat production increased by 28.6% and estimated as 10 thousand 831 tons.
When red meat production in the period of last ten years was examined, it is seen that the total red meat production which was 1 million 67 thousand 553 tons in 2012, became 1 million 952 thousand 38 tons in 2021.
Total red meat production which was estimated as 1 million 952 thousand 38 tons in 2021 was composed of 74.8% cattle meat, 19.8% sheep meat, 4.8% goat meat and 0.6% buffalo meat. (ILKHA)
