Germany's inflation hits highest point in more than 4 decades
The inflation rate in Germany, measured as the year-on-year change in the consumer price index (CPI), stood at +7.3% in March, according to final data released by the German statistics office Destatis on Tuesday.
“In February, it had been +5.1%. Thus, inflation in March reached its highest level since German reunification,” Destatis said.
Similarly, high inflation rates in the former territory of the Federal Republic were last recorded in the autumn of 1981 when mineral oil prices had markedly increased as a result of the first Gulf war between Iraq and Iran.
Destatis also reported that consumer prices jumped by 2.5% from February. (ILKHA)
