During the phone call, Haniyeh and Wennesland discussed the latest political and field developments related to the Palestinian cause, according to the statement.

Haniyeh briefed Wennesland on the recent Israeli practices in the occupied West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem, pointing to targeted assassinations, the latest of which took place in Jenin, where Israeli occupation forces shot dead five Palestinians on the eve of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The Hamas chief denounced the incursions by fanatic settlers and zionist occupation leaders, including extremist israeli MK Itamar Ben Gvir and foreign minister Yair Lapid, who stormed the Bab al-Amud area in Jerusalem's Old City, as a provocation of Muslims' feelings in the holy month of Ramadan.

Haniyeh called on the UN to play its role in putting an end to such israeli practices in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque and providing access for all Palestinian worshippers from the West Bank and the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 to the Muslim sacred compound.

The top Hamas official also addressed the conditions of Palestinian detainees held in zionist occupation prisons.

Haniyeh discussed efforts to reconstruct the Gaza Strip and break the15-year zionist occupation's siege on the Strip.

For his part, Wennesland briefed Haniyeh on the UN's efforts in this regard.

The UN envoy hailed the relationship with Hamas as “constructive and strategic.” (ILKHA)
