Afghan Foreign Minister Muttaqi meets with his Russian counterpart in China
Afghanistan Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi and his accompanying delegation met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in China.
Maulvi Amir Khan Mottaqi, who is currently in China to attend a meeting of foreign ministers of regional countries, spoke at the international forums about the new government of Afghanistan.
At his meeting with Lavrov, Mottaqi thanked Russia for its support and welcomed the new diplomat to the Afghan embassy in Moscow. Mottaqi said that he hoped that the Afghan embassy in Moscow would be fully operational soon.
Mottaqi also hailed the visit of a Russian delegation to Kabul last week as a good step and a sign of good relations between the two countries.
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the international community should play an active role in Afghanistan and continue to work with the Afghan government to resolve the issue of recognition as soon as possible.
Lavrov said humanitarian aid to Afghanistan was now a priority for him, adding that a new Afghan diplomat had arrived in Moscow and would work to make the Afghan embassy operational. (ILKHA)
