Türkiye’s exports to UAE increase by more than 50 percent after Erdoğan’s visit
Türkiye’s exports to the UAE increased by 52.4 percent in February compared to the previous month and reached 303 million 242 thousand dollars.
After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit, Türkiye’s exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) increased by 52.4 percent in February compared to the previous month.
Erdoğan’s visit to the UAE last month began to bear fruits in foreign trade in a short time. The visit was a significant step in enhancing the two nations’ political and economic ties.
Following the visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Türkiye on November 24, 2021, Erdoğan’s visit to the UAE last month was noted as a historical development.
During the visit, the Republic of Türkiye and the UAE government signed 13 agreements in the fields of the defense industry, health, climate change, industry, technology, culture, agriculture, commerce, economy, land and sea transportation, youth, disaster management, meteorology, communication, and archives.
Mutual visits started to yield positive results in terms of Turkish export to the UAE.
According to the data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), Türkiye’s exports to the UAE increased by 52.4 percent in February compared to January and reached 303 million 242 thousand dollars. The export to the UAE increased by 29.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
UAE became Türkiye’s 17th largest export market in February. In January, the UAE ranked 18th in terms of export volume.
The jewelry industry came to the forefront
The highest export was realized in the jewelry industry to the UAE with 90 million 861 thousand dollars last month.
The jewelry was followed by the defense and aerospace industry with 35 million 387 thousand dollars, chemicals and by-products with 22 million 740 thousand dollars, carpet with 15 million 767 thousand dollars, grain, legumes, oilseeds, and by-products with 15 million 600 thousand dollars.
During this period, the highest increase in export to the country on the basis of value was in the jewelry sector. In February, the jewelry industry's exports to the UAE climbed by 44 million 907 thousand dollars compared to the previous month.
The jewelry industry was followed by the defense and aerospace industry with 35 million 344 thousand dollars, carpet with 5 million 113 thousand dollars, chemicals and by-products with 3 million 402 thousand dollars, and the automotive industry with 3 million 59 thousand dollars.
The automotive industry’s export value reached 12 million 829 thousand dollars to the UAE during this period.
Last month, İstanbul exported the most goods to the UAE, worth 162 million 471 thousand dollars, followed by Çorum with 37 million 319 thousand dollars, Gaziantep with 16 million 347 thousand dollars, İzmir with 12 million 399 thousand dollars, and Ankara with 11 million 448 thousand dollars.
