EU leaders to discuss Ukraine crisis in emergency summit
The European Council President Charles Michel has called an emergency summit on Thursday to discuss the buildup of Russian forces on Ukraine’s borders.
The President of the European Council has convened a special meeting of the European Council to discuss the situation in Ukraine following Russia's military aggression and violation of international law as well as territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
“The use of force and coercion to change borders has no place in the 21st century. I am calling a special European Council tomorrow in Brussels to discuss the latest developments related to #Ukraine and Russia,” tweeted Charles Michel, President of the European Council

In an invitation letter to leaders, Michel said that “the aggressive actions by the Russian Federation violate international law and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. They also undermine the European security order”.
Michel went on to say: “It is important that we continue to be united and determined and jointly define our collective approach and actions. Therefore, I would like to invite you for a special European Council on Thursday 24 February, which will take place in person in Brussels and start at 20:00.”
Michel underlined that he would like them to discuss the latest developments in the crisis, as well as “how we protect the rules-based international order” and “how we deal with Russia notably holding Russia accountable for its actions.”
He also noted that he would like heads of state and government to talk about how the EU “will further support Ukraine and its people.” (ILKHA)
