9-year-old boy trapped in well for past two days in Afghanistan
A nine-year-old boy, identified as Haidar, has been trapped down a 33ft well for the past two days at Shokok village, in the Zabul province, Afghanistan.
Afghan rescue teams are digging an open slit trench from an angle at the surface to try to reach the place where the boy has been trapped, local sources said.
A video taken by rescuers who lowered a camera down the well shows the boy crying while waiting to be rescued at the bottom of 33ft well.
It comes just two weeks after the death of five-year-old Rayan Awram after spending over 100 hours trapped in a well in Ighran village in Tamorot commune, Chefchaouen Province, Morocco.
Rescue attempts were delayed by the narrow well and fragile ground. A separate trench was dug to access the bottom of the well, although when rescuers reached Awram on 5 February it was discovered that he had died. (ILKHA)
