Over 98 kg of heroin seized in eastern Turkey
Anti-narcotics teams have seized 98,65 kilograms of heroin in Turkey’s eastern Hakkari province, the Governor's office said in a statement on Monday.
The heroin was seized by gendarmerie special forces during a helicopter-supported operation in a rural area of the Yüksekova district, according to the statement.
Eight people were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking, the statement added.
The suspects will be brought before the court after the police investigation is completed.
Turkey maintains strict laws against the use, possession, or trafficking of illegal drugs. If convicted under these offenses, one could receive a heavy fine or a prison sentence of 4 to 24 years. (ILKHA)
