China enforces quarantine in Guangxi after latest COVID-19 flare-up
Chinese officials have imposed a lockdown in the southwestern border city of Baise to combat a surge in local Covid-19 infections.
So far, Guangxi autonomous region has reported 99 local confirmed COVID-19 cases in the latest outbreak since Saturday. All the cases are registered in the city of Baise, which has a population of about 3.6 million and borders Vietnam.
The Guangxi center for disease prevention and control has detected the Omicron variant in the specimens of two confirmed cases, and gene sequencing is underway.
The authorities ordered residents to stay at home from Monday and avoid unnecessary travel to contain the rising local infections of COVID-19. (ILKHA)
