Turkey’s inflation rises by 48.69 annually— statistics agency
The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 48.69% annually and 11.10% monthly, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Thursday.
A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 11.10%, on December of the previous year by 11.10%, on same month of the previous year by 48.69% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 22.58% in January 2022.
Compared to general CPI, lower annual change observed in 8 main groups while 4 main groups were higher
The lowest annual increase was 10.76% in communication. Education with 18.67%, clothing and footwear with 25.32% and health with 28.63%, were the other main groups where low annual increases realized. On the other hand, transportation with 68.89%, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 55.61% and furnishings and household equipment with 54.53% were the main groups where high annual increases realized.
Compared to general CPI, lower monthly change observed in 7 main groups while 5 main groups were higher
In January 2022, the main group that decrease observed was clothing and footwear with 0.24%. Education with 1.19%, communication with 2.16% and miscellaneous goods and services with 8.09% were the main groups that indicated lowest monthly increase. On the other hand, alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 21.90%, housing with 18.91%, and furnishings and household equipment with 12.82% were the main groups where high monthly increases realized.
In January 2022, within average prices of 409 items in the index, the average prices of 38 items decreased and the average prices of 17 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 354 items increased.
The indicator for CPI having specified coverage (B) increased by 42.66% annually and 7.49% monthly
A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 7.49%, on December of the previous year by 7.49%, on same month of the previous year by 42.66% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 21.91% in January 2022.
