Türkiye welcomes OECD accession discussions with 6 candidate countries
Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued a press release regarding the opening of OECD accession discussions with Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, and Romania.
“We welcome the decision taken by the Council of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) at its meeting on 25 January 2022, with Türkiye’s support, to start accession discussions with Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru and Romania,” the Ministry said.
Underlining that Türkiye, as a founding member, attaches the utmost importance to the dissemination of the core values and principles as well as inclusive and sustainable development goals of the OECD, the Ministry stated: “We believe that the finalization of the accession processes for all six candidate countries would reinforce the leading role of the OECD in tackling the global challenges and increase its effectiveness by contributing to the universalization of our shared values and principles.”
“With this understanding, we will continue to support Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, and Romania during the accession discussions and in their reform efforts to adhere to OECD standards and instruments,” the Ministry added.
On Wednesday, The OECD Council decided today to open accession discussions with six candidates to OECD Membership – Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru, and Romania.
“This follows careful deliberation by OECD Members on the basis of its evidence-based Framework for Consideration of Prospective Members and the progress made by the six countries since their first respective requests for OECD membership,” the organization said. (ILKHA)
