Japan to destroy about 130,000 chickens due to outbreak of bird flu
The authorities have planned to destroy about 130 thousand chickens after a highly pathogenic H5N1 virus was found on one of the local poultry farms in the Japanese prefecture of Ehime.
The prefectural government will cull all chicken raised at the farm and ban the movement of chickens and eggs out of the 10-kilometer radius of the facility.
A sanitary zone is already operating within a radius of three kilometers around the focus of infection, officials said.
The outbreak of bird flu was confirmed through genetic testing after a local livestock health center received a report of an increase in dead chickens at the farm on Thursday. (ILKHA)
