At least 54 people in Mexico road accident
At least 54 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in a road accident in southern Mexico on Thursday.
The incident took place on a highway near Tuxtla Gutierrez, the state capital of Chiapas when a cargo truck jammed with more than 100 migrants from Central America had rolled over and crashed into a pedestrian bridge, local officials said.
Luis Manuel García, head of the Chiapas civil protection agency, explained that the testimonies of the survivors have identified most of them are from Guatemala.
Mexica’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that some of the people who died included foreign nationals.
“Serious accident in Chiapas with victims of nationals of other countries. My condolences to the victims and affected families. In communication with the State Government and Civil Protection. We make contact with the foreign ministries of the affected countries,” Ebrard said on Twitter. (ILKHA)
