Turkey: İstanbul had highest share of GDP with 30.1% in 2020

According to the estimation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by provinces; İstanbul reached the highest GDP with 1 trillion 517 billion 324 million TRY for the year 2020 and gained 30.1% of total GDP.

İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 482 billion 589 million TRY and 9.6% share and İzmir with 306 billion 713 million TRY and 6.1% share.

In the estimation of GDP by provinces, the last three provinces were Tunceli, Ardahan and Bayburt with 5 billion 65 million TRY, 4 billion 487 million TRY and 3 billion 191 million TRY, respectively.

The highest GDP per capita was estimated for İstanbul with 97 950 TRY in 2020

İstanbul reached the highest GDP per capita with 97 thousand 950 TRY in 2020. İstanbul was followed by Kocaeli with 96 thousand 745 TRY and Ankara with 85 thousand 396 TRY. In the estimation of GDP per capita, the last three provinces were Van, Ağrı and Şanlıurfa with 22 thousand 104 TRY, 21 thousand 357 TRY and 20 thousand 421 TRY, respectively.

In 2020, GDP per capita for fourteen provinces were over the average of that of Turkey.

 İstanbul had the highest share in all economic activities except "agriculture, forestry and fishing" and "other service activities"

 When the activities which constitute GDP were examined; İstanbul, having the highest share of GDP at current prices in 2020, also reached the highest share in all economic activities except agriculture and other service activities. The share of İstanbul in information and communication activities was 64.4%, finance and insurance activities was 58.7%, professional, administrative and support service activities was 46.0%, services sector was 40.8% and construction sector was 33.2%. Konya was the first among 81 provinces with a share of 5.9% in agriculture, forestry and fishing and Ankara with a share of 41.1% in other service activities.

The services sector had the highest share in total GDP of İstanbul with 30.3%

 While İstanbul had a share of 40.8% in the total of the services sector in 2020, the share of the services sector in the total GDP of the province was 30.3%. The industry sector was the second with a share of 17.9%, professional, administrative and support service activities was the third with a share of 7.3% in the total GDP of İstanbul.

GDP with chain linked volume index for 63 provinces were over the average of Turkey in 2020

Annual GDP with chain linked volume index increased by 1.79% in 2020 compared to the previous year, GDP percentage change of 63 provinces were increased over the average of Turkey. The first three provinces with the highest increase in 2020 compared to the previous year were Aksaray with 15.8% percentage change, Ardahan with 15.5% and Çanakkale with 13.9%, respectively. The three provinces with the highest decrease compared to the previous year were Nevşehir with 4.7% percentage change, Muğla with 8.3% and Antalya with 24.3%, respectively.

Ankara had the largest contribution with 0.59% to the GDP percentage change of Turkey (1.79%) in 2020

 Ankara had the largest contribution with 0.59% to the 1.79% increase in annual GDP compared to the previous year by chain linked volume index. Ankara was followed by Gaziantep with 0.21% and Kocaeli with 0.19%. The provinces with the largest negative contribution to the annual GDP percentage change in 2020 were Antalya with 0.85%, Muğla with 0.11%, İstanbul 0.09%. (ILKHA)
