Indian troops kill at least 13 civilians in Nagaland state

The protesters burned army vehicles after the villagers were shot and killed by soldiers, who thought the villagers were militants, local sources reported.

“The unfortunate incident leading to the killing of civilians at Oting, Mon is highly condemnable. Condolences to the bereaved families & speedy recovery of those injured. High-level SIT will investigate & justice delivered as per the law of the land. Appeal for peace from all sections,” tweeted Neiphiu Rio, the Chief Minister of Nagaland.

“We are deeply regretted the incident and the cause of the unfortunate loss of lives is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per the course of law,” Indian Army said.

According to local reports, Indian troops opened fire at a truck after receiving intelligence about a movement of insurgents in the area and killed six villagers. When the villagers burned two military vehicles to protest the incident, the soldiers fired at them, killing nine others. (ILKHA)
