The minimum wage must provide a living wage for families

Pointing out that 7 million minimum wage workers are waiting for the result of the minimum wage negotiations along with their families, HÜDA PAR reminded that the purchasing power of the Turkish lira has decreased and the minimum wage has fallen below the hunger limit.

HÜDA PAR drew attention to the astronomical increases in food prices in the last year and the cost of living and urged Turkish authorities to take the inflation of the kitchen into consideration while determining the new maximum wage.

“The new minimum wage should be humane, Islamic, and conscientious,” HÜDA PAR stated.

"It is not possible for a wage below 4 thousand Turkish liras to meet the needs of a family"

“According to this, it is not possible for a wage below 4 thousand TL to meet the needs of a family. Redefining the minimum wage and removing the tax are two important steps the government must take. The definition of the current minimum wage is unfair. In the official definition, the family of the worker is not taken into account. The wage should be high enough to meet the essential needs of all family members, not just the workers.”

“As a requirement of the social state understanding, the minimum wage should not be sacrificed to economic problems; both the employee and the employer should be considered when determining the minimum wage. The state should take more responsibility, the minimum wage should be exempted from tax and employment should be encouraged by reducing SSK premium payments.”

"Prices of basic food products cannot be left uncontrolled"

Pointing out that the great increase and fluctuation in the exchange rates were reflected in almost every product as a price hike, HÜDA PAR said: “The unpredictability of what will happen tomorrow in the market and the instability in the prices cause panic in the public. Stocking and arbitrary pricing in the market cause serious grievances. Prices of basic food products cannot be left uncontrolled. The relevant institutions of the state should take initiatives to eliminate the concerns of the public. The contradictory statements made increase the anxiety and panic among the public. The situation should be brought under control as soon as possible, and the market should not be handed over to speculators and malicious people.
