Turkey’s unemployment rate decreases by 0.4% in Q3
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realized as 11.7%, Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement.
Seasonally adjusted unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 57 thousand to 3 million 842 thousand persons in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter in Turkey.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate occurred as 11.7% with 0.4 percentage point decrease.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 45.4%
The number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 671 thousand to 28 million 996 thousand persons in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 45.4% with increase of 0.8 percentage points.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 51.4%
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 615 thousand persons to 32 million 838 thousand persons in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter and the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 51.4% with 0.7 percentage point increase.
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 22.1% and seasonally adjusted employment rate was 32.4%
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 22.1% with 1.1 percentage point decrease in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter and seasonally adjusted employment rate was 32.4% with 0.5 percentage point increase. Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate in this age group realized as 41.6% without any change.
55.4% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter, the number of seasonally adjusted agricultural employment increased by 81 thousand persons, industry increased by 124 thousand persons, construction increased by 10 thousand persons and services increased by 456 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.1% was employed in agriculture, 21.4% was employed in industry, 6.2% was employed in construction and 55.4% was employed in services.
Seasonally and calendar adjusted weekly average actual working hours realized as 44.0 hours
Seasonally and calendar adjusted number of employed persons at work increased by 652 thousand persons and reached 26 million 809 thousand persons in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. The weekly average actual working hours of those at work increased by 0.6 hours compared to the previous quarter and became 44.0 hours, while the total weekly hours worked increased by 45 million 119 thousand hours and reached 1 billion 179 million 80 thousand hours compared to the previous quarter.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 22.4%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 22.4% with 2.8 percentage point decrease in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 15.4%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 18.9%.
Unemployment rate realized as 11.7%
Unemployment rate realized as 11.7% with 1.6 percentage point decrease in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 282 thousand to 3 million 912 thousand persons compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
Employment rate realized as 46.4%
Employment rate realized as 46.4% with 2.8 percentage point increase in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of employed persons estimated as 29 million 652 thousand persons with 2 million 288 thousand persons increase.
Labor force participation rate realized as 52.6%
Labor force participation rate was 52.6% with 2.3 percentage point increase in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of labor force estimated as 33 million 564 thousand persons with 2 million 6 thousand persons increase.
The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector was 18.3%
In the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the rate of unregistered employment, which indicates the share of those who are not affiliated with social security institution in total employment realized as 30.5% with 2.9 percentage point decrease. The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector realized as 18.3% with 2.5 percentage point decrease compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
69.2% of the employment was regular or casual employees
69.2% of the employment was regular or casual employees, 4.5% were employers, 15.9% were self-employed, 10.3% were unpaid family workers.
The proportion of the young population in the 15-24 age group who are neither in employment nor in education, was 26.0%
The proportion of the young population in the 15-24 age group who are neither in education nor in employment, was 26.0% in the third quarter of 2021. The number of young people, neither in education nor in employment, was 3 million 115 thousand persons.
Long-term unemployed constituted 31.7% of the number of unemployed
