Jordan grants special pardon for those convicted of lèse-majesté
A Royal Decree was issued on Sunday, approving a special pardon for those convicted in cases related to lèse-majesté, an offense against the dignity of a reigning sovereign or against a state.
The pardon includes 155 convicts, according to the decree.
“In October, His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to look into all cases related to lèse-majesté, which violate article 195 of the Penal Code and in which final rulings have been issued, in order to grant a special pardon to those convicted in such cases,” The Jordanian Royal Court said in a statement.
Article 195 of the Jordanian Penal Code punishes “insulting the king” with up to three years imprisonment. (ILKHA)
