“It is noteworthy that the attacks in Syria intensified at a time when the Constitutional Committee meetings, which promised a political solution for the conflict, started and the sides agreed on a mechanism to begin drafting the constitution for the war-torn country,” HÜDA PAR Headquarters said in its weekly statement.

Pointing out that civilian settlements are being targeted in the Idlib de-escalation zone, HÜDA PAR said:

“The attacks that were intensified during the constitutional negotiations aim to undermine the negotiations. The countries that target civilians in order to increase their control in the field and strengthen their hands at the negotiating table should not become actors in the future of the Syrian people. Russia, one of the guarantor countries, has not fulfilled its responsibilities in the Sochi and Astana agreements and massacred civilians in airstrikes on the Idlib de-escalation zone. Therefore, it is unacceptable to see Russia as the main actor in the solution of the Syrian issue today. Islamic countries should not leave the Syrian issue to the mercy of America and Russia. The Syrian conflict, which has caused the killings of hundreds of thousands of civilians and the displacement of millions of people, must be resolved through a regional reconciliation. To that end, a permanent ceasefire should be declared immediately. Syria constitution drafting process”

HÜDA PAR underlined that “it is unlikely that Syria constitution drafting process can be completed successfully as the attacks on civilians remain high.”

Calling on the international community to provide financial support for the reconstruction and stability of Syria and the safe return of refugees, HÜDA PAR went on to say: “A report published by Human Rights Watch indicated that refugees who returned to the country after the Syrian Regime’s calls for returning home had been exposed to ill-treatment. The report noted that returning refugees are at risk of persecution from the government. Due to these reasons, it should be ensured that refugees will not be subjected to violations and oppression. Those who commit ill-treatment against refugees should not get away with impunity. Regional countries have failed to take action on the Syrian conflict despite the regional effects and humanitarian crisis it caused. However, the regional countries must launch an initiative for de-escalating the Syria crisis that is deepening day by day with a potential causing greater troubles in the region.” (ILKHA)
