Pentagon confirms drone attack on US troops in Syria
Drones targeted US military base al-Tanf in the southeastern part of Syria near the borders with Jordan and Iraq late Wednesday.
At least four drones bombed a food warehouse, a cafeteria, and a mosque inside the military base, local sources reported.
“US troops in Syria were targeted in a deliberate and coordinated attack that appears to have used both unmanned aircraft and indirect fire,” the US Department of Defense said.
There were no casualties among the US forces, according to officials.
Al-Tanf, also known as the Al-Tanf garrison is a United States military base within territory controlled by the Syrian opposition in Homs Governorate located 24 km west of the al-Tanf border crossing in the Syrian Desert.
The surrounding deconfliction zone is located along the Iraq and Jordan–Syria border. The garrison is located along a critical road known as the M2 Baghdad–Damascus Highway. (ILKHA)
