As part of a joint effort by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 1/2 reduced copy of the T-shaped P18 obelisk, representing Göbeklitepe, which was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2018, began to be exhibited at the UN garden.

During his visit, Erdoğan was accompanied by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, AK Party Deputy Chairman Binali Yıldırım, President of 75th session of UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkır, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın and Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the UN Feridun Sinirlioğlu.

The replica of the obelisk became the second “ancient Anatolian” artifact on exhibit at the UN headquarters.

The UN will permanently host the replica of the obelisks in Göbeklitepe.

The replica, like all the obelisks in Göbeklitepe, was carved out of limestone - known in the region as “Şanlıurfa stone”- over the course of around two months by Ahmet Demirtaş, an archaeologist and sculptor from Şanlıurfa, and his team. (ILKHA)
