6 killed, 2 injured in road accident in central Turkey
Six people were killed and two others were injured on Friday when a truck crashed into a light commercial vehicle on the highway between Konya and Aksaray.
According to the initial reports, six people in the light commercial vehicle died at the scene and the driver of the truck as well as another person was critically injured.
The injured were rushed to Konya City Hospital, local sources reported.
The officers were investigating how the crash happened.
Traffic accidents claim thousands of lives every year in Turkey. According to figures by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 4,866 people were killed in traffic accidents and another 226,266 people suffered injuries in the country last year.
One-third of the accidents stem from drivers exceeding speed limits. (ILKHA)
