Turkey: Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate realizes as 12.4% in Q2
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate occurred as 12.4% with 0.6 percentage point decrease, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Monday.
Seasonally adjusted unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over decreased by 184 thousand to 3 million 989 thousand persons in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter in Turkey.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 44.4%
The number of seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 379 thousand to 28 million 234 thousand persons in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 44.4% with increase of 0.4 percentage points.
Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate realized as 50.7%
The seasonally adjusted labor force increased by 194 thousand persons to 32 million 222 thousand persons in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter and the seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 50.7% with 0.1 percentage point increase.
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate was 23.2% and seasonally adjusted employment rate was 32.3%
Seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 23.2% with 1.5 percentage point decrease in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter and seasonally adjusted employment rate was 32.3% with 1.6 percentage point increase. Seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate in this age group realized as 42.1% with 1.3 percentage points increase.
54.8% of seasonally adjusted employment was in the services sector
In the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter, the number of seasonally adjusted agricultural employment decreased by 21 thousand persons while industry increased by 143 thousand persons, construction increased by 99 thousand persons and services increased by 160 thousand persons. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.2% was employed in agriculture, 21.5% was employed in industry, 6.5% was employed in construction and 54.8% was employed in services.
Seasonally and calendar adjusted weekly average actual working hours realized as 43.1 hours
Seasonally and calendar adjusted number of employed persons at work decreased by 259 thousand persons and reached 26 million 107 thousand persons in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. The weekly average actual working hours of those at work increased by 0.3 hours compared to the previous quarter and became 43.1 hours, while the total weekly hours worked decreased by 4 million 501 thousand hours and reached 1 billion 124 million 722 thousand hours compared to the previous quarter.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labor underutilization rate realized as 25.4%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 25.4% with 2.4 percentage point decrease in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 17.6%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force realized as 20.6%.
Unemployment rate realized as 11.8%
Unemployment rate realized as 11.8% with 1.0 percentage point decrease in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 11 thousand to 3 million 795 thousand persons compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
Employment rate realized as 44.7%
Employment rate realized as 44.7% with 3.3 percentage point increase in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of employed persons estimated as 28 million 448 thousand persons with 2 million 595 thousand persons increase.
Labor force participation rate realized as 50.7%
Labor force participation rate was 50.7% with 3.2 percentage point increase in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of labor force estimated as 32 million 243 thousand persons with 2 million 584 thousand persons increase.
The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector was 16.5%
In the second quarter of 2021 compared to the previous quarter, the rate of unregistered employment, which indicates the share of those who are not affiliated with social security institution in total employment realized as 28.7% with 1.5 percentage point decrease. The rate of unregistered employment in the non-agricultural sector realized as 16.5% with 1.4 percentage point decrease compared to the previous quarter.
70% of the employment was regular or casual employees
70% of the employment was regular or casual employees, 4.7% were employers, 15.8% were self-employed, 9.6% were unpaid family workers.
The proportion of the young population in the 15-24 age group who are neither in employment nor in education, was 23.5%
The proportion of the young population in the 15-24 age group who are neither in education nor in employment, was 23.5% in the second quarter of 2021. The number of young people, neither in education nor in employment, was 2 million 805 thousand persons.
Long-term unemployed constituted 34.6% of the number of unemployed
